Leading Shot Peening Machine Manufacturers

Metal parts that need improved wear and fatigue qualities are finished using shot peening. Metal surfaces can be changed by shot peening equipment using spherical metal, glass, or plastic particles. Additionally, a compressive residual stress layer is intended to be added to a material using shot peening machines. In contrast to sandblasting, this removes material from the surface by stripping it away as high-speed collisions between metal, plastic, or glass particles and metal surfaces cause deformations. This results in less dust and less material being removed from the surface. Read More…

Shot Peening Machines Shot peening is an abrasive blasting, or abrasive machining, process. Much like sandblasting, shot peening is a process where abrasive materials are forced out of a piece of equipment at high pressure to alter the surface of metals and other materials.

Our sandblast equipment is designed to handle a wide variety of applications and we use manufacturing methods that guarantee these machines will stand the test of time.

Shot Peening Machines

How They Work

High-pressure air is used in air blast systems to discharge the shots through a nozzle at the workpiece. By altering the media entrance point to time the media release, a centrifugal blast wheel uses a high-speed paddle wheel to push the shot peening media. By striking a surface with a shot (a round metallic, glass, or ceramic particle) hard enough to cause plastic deformation, shot peening machines work. By applying compression stresses to the component's surface, the dimples strengthen the metal's resistance to corrosion.

Types of Shot Peening Machines

CNC Shot Peening Machines

In the aerospace sector, CNC shot peening machines finish structural aircraft parts and other components that need an even, precise finish across the surface area. Precision nozzle placement and complete coverage of the workpiece during blasting are both made possible by CNC automation. As a result, large pieces may be finished on these machines to the strictest tolerances.

Ultrasonic Shot Peening Machines

Ultrasonic machines will mechanically stimulate small stainless steel balls to strike items inside an ultrasonic chamber that has been carefully built. Shot peening performed through these machines boosts metal items' corrosion resistance and fatigue strength under high tensile stress and is ultrasonically triggered. The technique involves striking a surface quickly and forcefully enough to cause a plastic deformation using projectiles (metal, glass, or ceramic beads); each ball functions as a little hammer.

Suction Shot Peening Machines

For items that require a less aggressive finish than what typical shot peening equipment offers, shot peening machines with suction units are employed. Large airframe parts and other components that need an even, precise finish across the full surface area are finished with this equipment, primarily in the aerospace sector.

Suction shot peening machines are used for parts that do not require the compression strength or fatigue life required by structural and high-stress parts. These parts can be made of less abrasive materials, such as glass beads, ceramic, small steel shot, and plastic media. Items run through these machines are also ready for additional polishing, if necessary, thanks to the softer shot.

Rotary Index Shot Peening Machines

Both suction and pressure shot delivery are available for rotary index shot peening equipment. Since some parts are peened while others are unloaded and loaded, these peening machines are used in high-volume applications like aircraft engine blade roots and automobile gear peening applications.

Coil Spring Shot Peening Machines

These machines are largely utilized in the automotive and aerospace industries, where they are used to make coil springs, valves, clutches, etc. The machines' intended use is to increase the durability and hardness of workpieces by subjecting them to intense alternate bending or torsion strains.

Shot peening of coil springs increases the durability of coil springs under dynamic load. A coil spring shot-peening machine can handle a wide range of springs by automatically changing the distance between rollers. Heavy cylindrical coil springs are shot-peened using a newly developed coil-pushing technique. A shot peening machine for springs and coils can perform individual treatment of each coil spring. The coil springs rotate and are axially moving through the blasting zone, so the blasting is optimal for each coil spring. Data exchange with the central computer of the production line is also made possible in shot peening machines for springs and coils.

Applications of Shot Peening Machines

  • testing for mechanical and structural stability using ultrasound (of watches, micro-systems, and high-tech components)
  • testing of accelerated bolt unscrewing (watch industry, micro-systems)
  • as a testing tool to provide quick answers about mechanical reliability for businesses producing high-tech micro-electronic and micro-mechanical components and systems
  • Manufacturers can use shot peening machines to produce appropriate material for surgical parts and implants.
  • Shot peening machines are used to manufacture various military components and aerospace parts.
  • Such mechanical bombardment may imitate testing outcomes that normally take weeks or months to achieve in just a few minutes.
  • changing the surface finish to provide a smoother surface and get rid of flaws

Benefits of Shot Peening Machines

  • Internal stress concentrations (burns, scratches, welds, etc.) and other flaws may result from the machining and shaping of metal parts. Shot peening can avoid these issues, which may cause early fatigue failure, porosity, weakening, and corrosion.
  • the development of a white coating up to 10 microns thick with exceptional lubricity, abrasion resistance, and corrosion resistance
  • enhancement of endurance and resistance to corrosion
  • Any part prone to bending or twisting force will have its fatigue life extended by shot peening.

Choosing the Right Shot Peening Machine Manufacturer

To make sure you have the most productive outcome when purchasing shot peening machines from a shot peening machine manufacturer, it is important to compare at least 4 to 5 manufacturers using our list of shot peening machine companies. Each shot peening machine manufacturer has a business profile page that highlights their areas of experience and capabilities and a contact form to directly communicate with the manufacturer for more information or request a quote. Review each shot peening machine company using our patented website previewer to get an idea of what each business specializes in, and then use our simple RFQ form to contact multiple shot peening machine companies with the same message.
